MEC Energy Industry Night

19th May, 2022

MEC’s annual industry night returned after a short hiatus, bigger than ever. Representatives from top energy companies in Australia including Woodside, The Monash Energy Institute, Deloitte, Hitachi Energy, Jetcharge, United Energy, Beca and Vestas attended to help students to make connections, build their networks and gain valuable insights into the energy industry.

Women in Energy Industry Night

10th May, 2022

One of MEC’s first events in 2022, this industry night was held for female students to connect with and listen to stories from female leaders in the energy sector over free finger food and drinks. Female leaders from multidisciplinary backgrounds and organisations attended, resulting in a very successful night.

Grounded: Growing from Co2 webinar series

The Monash Energy Club has hosted a three part webinar series on the CO2 utilisation in the lead up to our CarbonHack and the opening of team registrations for the X-Prize. We were able to have some leading experts well versed in this research, as well as students who are beginning their journeys in this area, present and discuss the opportunities available in CO2 utilisation.

Young Professionals in Energy (Webinar)

Monash Energy Club is holding our first Young Professionals in Energy online event on Wednesday, 17th of June at 12pm. Hear from three young professionals working in the energy sector about how they have transitioned to the professional workplace from university and get a sneak peak into their everyday lives. Our presenters are Nicole Dodd, Senior Analyst in Market Design at AEMO, Gary La, Graduate Engineer in Renewable Energy at AECOM and Emily Brebner, Technical Bid Engineer at Vestas. It will be an interactive session with time for questions and discussions after the presentations.

Renewable Energy Camp

See first hand the innovative technology and companies that are leading the penetration of renewable energy in Australia!

The Monash Energy Club is offering exclusive access and a tour of Acciona’s Waubra wind farm, and Enel’s Cohuna solar farm. This will be a two day event visiting two separate renewable energy farms on the border of Victoria and NSW. Transport will be provided free of charge. This is a chance to meet other keen MEC members interested in renewable energy!

Looking ahead at COP25

Monash Energy Club (MEC) hosted a seminar to discuss the topics that will dominate the COP25 agenda, including international carbon markets and the need for resource mobilisation to ensure the transition to a low-carbon economy.

The event began with an introduction from our three speakers, followed by a panel discussion. The confirmed panel members were:

AGL Control Room Tour

AGL owns the largest electricity generation portfolio in Australia, including the largest privately owned and controlled portfolio of renewable energy generators. Monash Energy Club (MEC) ran an exciting visit to the AGL control room to learn what it takes to operate variable renewable energy generation in volatile wholesale electricity markets while ensuring reliable power supply for its customers..
